Anyone else in the same boat?

I've got the same with my brother-in-law. He doesn't make fun of me (at least that I know of), but each time he complains and I tell him what to do/not do it's like talking to a wall. First he whines about how much he's going to spend on gas when he goes on vacation, so I told him to leave earlier to miss the traffic and to take it slow. He comes back and complains about his fuel consumption, then he brags about driving 160 km/h (100mph) and being "the king of the road". After three years of me hypermiling and ecomodding he still claims that it doesn't work, but at the same time he wanted to borrow my car for the vacation trip because "it barely uses any fuel".
Same goes for other things, like the electricity bills. He whines about having to pay so much more than we do, yet turns a deaf ear to my energy saving tips. He dismisses my low bill saying that he has more people in the house, but doesn't understand that one extra person doesn't justify using 40% more electricity, especially since I'm the one who uses electricity to preheat the car's engine.
Sometimes, you have to keep your head high and keep fighting, because you just might win. But sometimes, you can just give up with no second thoughts.
