For vehicles running on E85, this issue is also a question. And hybrids get really complicated.

I think that until we get a better way to compare vehicles that are powered by disparate energy sources, we have to continue to use MPGe. But within one energy source, it is also helpful to use the "native" unit of energy per mile, or miles per unit of energy.
