An overdrive transmission is probably the biggest thing you could do to improve mileage in that car. I know that a lot of GM parts interchange. Would a transmission like the 5 speed in my truck bolt in? It's got a 0.73:1 fifth gear and a first gear that will pull stumps with one of those engines.

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.
