George Carlin makes some sense if you don't think about it much.
One airplane flies across another's path 100 miles away. They missed (a far miss if you will) Would George describe it as a far hit?

LY hit. The two planes were near to each other and they missed, a near miss. I really don't get what George's problem there is, other than a desire to be contrary.
Look far a way those two planes hit each other a far hit. Wow look those two planes just hit each other and parts are falling on us a near hit.
