I've found that nearly every person I know who owns a pickup truck is more then happy to trade vehicles with me for a day or two or even longer for those times that I need to use a pickup truck because it's so rare that they use their truck as a truck, if we had a Zip-car like service around here and they offered use of a truck, half or more of those friends would most likely sell their trucks.
I think that services like Zip-Car can do a great deal to help people feel better about owning an electric car as their only vehicle along with getting people who feel they still need a gasoline powered car feel better about owning a smaller car or no car at all.
