Ed, to answer you original question; the existing spoiler lip you have does not look that high in the photos. I would still go with what the guys are suggesting, and which I've drawn out.
However, what you first proposed is what I too once proposed on a Chevy S-10 Blazer. It was a half hearted proposal, more of a question than anything else. You should look at it, just to solidify the path we have now directed you to, so that you don't have to look back and second guess yourself.
