You can hypermile anything. But the CVT Insight mileage can't touch the 5-speed's potential.

I'm seeing conflicting reports about the CVT model that say it may not even have lean burn capability. (Makes sense since the CVT version had a different emissions label.)

One owner (Wayland of White Zombie fame) who had both Insight versions simultaneously said the 5-speed would get ~80 mpg (US) on the same route and at the same speeds where the CVT would get ~60 mpg. (see http://www.plasmaboyracing.com/blog/?p=124 )

Not from coasting. That was from "driving with load" on secondary highways (45-50 mph) with the goal of keeping it in lean burn as much as possible.
