I've read your thread and I like it very much. Anyway I got this idea, that came to me while I was P&Ging. With the manual gearbox which is shifted by a robot, some logic and hacking & tweaking of the cuurent setup you may build an automated P&G system for your Lupo. With just 2-3 buttons to control it. You have everything that is needed. Start-stop feature, automatic gear shifting, automatic clutch. Just combine it together and voila!
