I'd think they can save far more fuel by concentrating on RR.

In order to keep the contact patch the same, the rim would need to be wider and the tyre would be stretched wider than necessary - that would give it more frontal area than needed - so that extra drag would need to be overcome before any benefit will show.

On 100mm of sidewall and 10°, you're looking at 18mm each side, that's a bit of stretch but I've seen worse on ricers.
