There's less than a million people in Detroit now. The Michigan legislature passed an "emergency" exception to their city sales tax law to allow Detroit to keep its own tax because only cities with at least a million people can have their own sales tax in Michigan.
So yeah, lots of empty real estate in Detroit these days.
