If y9u made a wooden frame with stringers you could cover it with a fabric and paint it like they used to do cars in the 20's , I've seen where they just stretched and tacked the fabric to the frame and then painted it for stiffness, maybe just use some fir strips , sort of like a model airplane is built , notch the frames run the strips and staple on the fabric, would be light and smooth .
