I was thinking it could fail to work based on the location.

You were allowing air under the car and stopping it, therefore forming a pressure build-up in that area with no obvious means of escape.

On the Corvette an opening to the radiator is provided above the set-back air dam, and the engine bay is also ventilated for flow and or pressure relief.

It looked real good while it lasted, I commend your ability to try something new.
