Your Intrepid is only 7 years older than my "pony". AND it's OBDII compliant. It's not just the equipment. It's how you use it. Most of the people I know or have met who own '05-'10 V6 Mustangs (even those with manuals) average around 26 MPG.
I must be doing something wrong.

On edit, I noticed that your Intrepid has the exact same EPA numbers as my Mustang.
Don't blame your equipment.
