in the 70s my friend got a new bug and bragged about the mileage, so much that we use to add gas one gallon every day or so, he was amazed at how good the mileage was 70-80mpg! when he took it in for his first checkup we stopped. I think he took it back to the dealer 4-5 times complaining that they had ruined the economy. I dont remember if he ever found out we had added the fuel. young men working swing shift are hard on a fella.
