What I would do is test with some temporary wheel covers to see how much of a difference it really makes and if small, I would keep the wheels like they are. The clear non metal covers are going to be an insulator and would trap in heat. If the temporary tests conclude a huge difference worth the effort I would get an extra set of wheels with the smooth wheel covers for when I wanted max efficiency, and put on the alloys when wanting to "show" out.
