I did not mean actual fiberglass, I meant fiberglass window screen. Like bug screen from a hardware store. I covered my wheels with shelf liner and the air turbulance ripped them to shreds. If you used some black bug screen between clear tape it would be hard to see and it would last longer.

Those green wheelcovers on my lupo are only for show purposes as they are acryl which wont last in the long run. They will work fine for some time but when something hits the cover it brittles quite easily. Those tinted polycorbonate ones can take the curbwall hits without any problems.

I used clear packing tape on my Odyssey for a recent trip. It looked homemade (not great). The wheels warming up made the adhesive very gummy and a major pain to remove - I had to use solvents to clean things up. Brake dust and road dirt made a mess of the inside surface.

I would not do clear covers.

I've got a 600 mile trip coming up, over two days, I think I might try it for the first trip.

What I would do is test with some temporary wheel covers to see how much of a difference it really makes and if small, I would keep the wheels like they are. The clear non metal covers are going to be an insulator and would trap in heat. If the temporary tests conclude a huge difference worth the effort I would get an extra set of wheels with the smooth wheel covers for when I wanted max efficiency, and put on the alloys when wanting to "show" out.
