Well my sixth gen DX has a number stamped on the transmission that begins with a code specifically identifying it as a 5 speed manual (S40), but I don't know if the serial number following that code designates a DX. I expect it might. And I would guess that from the time the Civics were made to have interchangable parts they designated different numbers simply for inventory clarity. But beyond those educated guesses, I'm sorryy, I don't know. Try
