Hi Brit - if you haven't yet spent the money on the K&N filter, I would suggest saving it.
While it's possible it may increase peak power (ie. at full throttle), it won't likely have any effect on fuel consumption at the low power loads we typically spend most of our time in to get best MPG.
There's a reason K&N do NOT claim fuel economy benefits in their marketing material - they know the law!
