Do the RPMs seem abnormally high for cruising above 40+? Wiki mentions its driven commonly with CV type carbs, this could be the reason why. CV carbs if not tuned properly could have demenishing performance results in the higher rpm range. luckily main jets are a snap to change out for better tunning
