That is a totally bogus comparison. The EPA test accelerates and decelerates by quite a lot, coming to a complete stop more than once, with the engine running the whole time. If I remember correctly, the Opel exclusively used Pulse-and-Coast with the engine off during the coast phase. It was also designed for only fuel economy, with no consideration given to passengers or heating and cooling or cargo or ANYTHING that wasn't about pulling miles per gallon.

Your point is valid, but the comparison is horribly bogus and takes away from your point.
