When I did my tuft testing, I found that using 2 1/2" lengths of thin lightweight cotton string gave the best results.

I tested the string alongside actual yarn and found that the yard had a tendency to stick to itself and anything around it - including body gaps and such .

I also ( tried ) to stagger the tufts apart so that the airflow would be clean and not influenced by the tuft directly in front of it.

On areas such as the rear windshield that get lots of glare, I tried different colors to see which showed up best. Sometimes white just disappears . I think it might be best to experiment with this, or perhaps have one side dark and the other light color

I hope you find someone that can act as a chase vehicle so we can get some more time to see what is going on with the airflow.
