They look as clean as mirror come - though it's very tricky to say wether mirrors are really aerodynamically fine.
Aerodynamically, they're a difficult area, so removal is almost always a (small) benefit.

They're usually to legally cover the wheel so it doesn't stick out of the body.
That's a legal requirement in some areas.

Before you go chopping up the 17 yo Camaro, which still looks OK on the pics, what MPG are you getting at the pump ?

If it's really a guzzler, you might keep it as a fun car and limit the miles you put on it, and get a more economical daily driver.
