aerodynamic camaro?

hi, new poster to this forum and ecomodding in general. the more i read the more and more i am interested in aero mods. i own a 95 camaro as a daily driver and was curious about a few things. i am planning a fog light grill block, clear headlight covers, and plastic air dam and tire deflectors. had a couple of questions

do my mirrors look aerodynamic or is a passenger mirror delete in order?

also what are the rear tire deflectors behind the rear wheel for in this picture?
http://http://www.netcarshow.com/che...llpaper_13.htm
http://photo.netcarshow.com/Chevrole...0_photo_13.jpg

and lastly is there anything subtle/easy i can do to my rear end? i was thinking maybe it would be more aerodynamic to block airflow from going under the rear spoiler. search youtube for "MOV01684.MPG camaro" to see a video of airflow around the rear spiler of a camaro. this particular one has a large lip addition but i think it may still be helpful

thanks for any help!

Here is the 3rd gen thread, might give you a few ideas.
http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ree-20643.html

The early body style 4th gens mirrors are pretty slick, I would leave them alone.

More food for thought:

It originated back around 2004 during my go fast days.

They look as clean as mirror come - though it's very tricky to say wether mirrors are really aerodynamically fine.
Aerodynamically, they're a difficult area, so removal is almost always a (small) benefit.

They're usually to legally cover the wheel so it doesn't stick out of the body.
That's a legal requirement in some areas.

Before you go chopping up the 17 yo Camaro, which still looks OK on the pics, what MPG are you getting at the pump ?

If it's really a guzzler, you might keep it as a fun car and limit the miles you put on it, and get a more economical daily driver.
Just a thought ...

How about some mechanical details? What engine, transmission, and rear end gearing do you have?

I know some of the rear end gears can swap with S10s, so if you're looking for highway MPG..

So, biggest motor, worst transmission, and best MPG gearing they offered. Gotcha.

I have the same tranny Solid, but nothing to write home to Facebook about.

What kind of MPG numbers are you getting now?

my last two tanks were 18mpg 40%city and 15.6mpg 75%city

the 3.23 i have now were part of an optional performance axle package, stock they came with 2.73. how much of a difference would that make in mpgs?

I would modify the variable that yields the greatest gains that cost the least first.

1) driving habits
2) tire pressure
etc...then move to mods that cost, that may have a lesser effect.

Since your car is a 1995, it is pre OBDII. You can not use a Ultra Gauge or Scan Gauge mileage computer. You can however use a MPGuino sold here on this site. You would have to splice it into your wiring harness. It is not hard to do and gives you a ton of feedback. At the very least install a vacuum gauge to help you figure out if what your doing is a plus or minus.

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...able-6914.html

The best thing you can do to improve your mpg is...

Adjust the nut behind the wheel...

Ohhh.
2.73 on a V8 with Th700 or 4L60x isnt the holy grail of V8 fuel economy but its darn close.
At some point I would like to go from 3.08 gears to 2.73 gears, I expect to pick up a little under 2mpg.
You would see at least that.
My metric for picking up MPGs is to try and stay under $250 per 1 MPG gained.
By the time you bought and installed the 2.73 rear, sold your old one I bet you could be in it for less than $500.
The 2.73 rear ends are toxic to the performance 1/4mile guys, they will all but give them away for free.
