insurance

something to consider also is the cost of insurance.
A new car is going to cost a lot more per month in auto insurance than a beat up old car.
Even a new used car thats a of a newer model year will cost more.

Example - you can insure a 90s car for around 44$ a month, or a 2000s car for about 70$ a month (atleast thats the quotes i got)

So your best bet, is to find a jalopy with good aero for cheap, convert it to diesel, and end up with a car with the least overall cost.
