AMC was truly ahead of their time. Apparently where they failed with this early SUV was by using the body of a station wagon.
People
hated this thing !
Minivans are the station wagons of today, and back when this car came out, no one wanted to be seen in a station wagon.
By simply scaling down a '
manly' truck and adding a welded on camper shell, car makers are able to sell cars just like this early AMC and trick men into buying them without hurting their ego for driving a 'station wagon'.
SUVs are lifted station wagons.
Anyone in agreement ?
