Yeah I can't wait for their next generation rotary engine, the 16X. It's going to be a 1.6L with direct injection... non turbo and more than 300 horsepower is claimed along with fuel efficiency and emissions improvements over the renesis 13B (rx8 engine, 1.3L 238-247hp).

Mazda has made huge improvements to these engines over the course of just 30 years.
84-85 GSL-SE: 135hp.
86-88 NA: 146hp, Turbo: 182hp.
89-92 NA: 160hp, Turbo: 200hp. Infini IV: 215hp
93-95 TT: 255hp. They reached 276PS (~280hp) in japan (this was the maximum power allowed in japan at the time)
RX8 NA: 189hp (4port), 212hp, 238hp, 247hp (6 ports)

So 135hp to 247hp (non turbo) without changing the engine dimensions at all.

Hopefully I'm not boring anyone, I just love these cars alot
