That was after Mazda
Some sovietic Wankels from the 80's, which were lower-quality copies of the 13B, still had a higher incidence of the "Devil nails".

Mazda's been making rotary powered cars since the 60's. It is really impressive that of all the car companies that tried to develope the wankel, Mazda was the only one that was successful with it. Through the gas crisis and the emissions standards, mazda kept with the rotary even though those were not its strong points. You just gotta love a company like that.

Mazda often comes with some unusual deals. But their new trend is the SkyActiv range, but it would be nice what they can do to their next-generation rotaries...

Yeah I can't wait for their next generation rotary engine, the 16X. It's going to be a 1.6L with direct injection... non turbo and more than 300 horsepower is claimed along with fuel efficiency and emissions improvements over the renesis 13B (rx8 engine, 1.3L 238-247hp).
Mazda has made huge improvements to these engines over the course of just 30 years.
84-85 GSL-SE: 135hp.
86-88 NA: 146hp, Turbo: 182hp.
89-92 NA: 160hp, Turbo: 200hp. Infini IV: 215hp
93-95 TT: 255hp. They reached 276PS (~280hp) in japan (this was the maximum power allowed in japan at the time)
RX8 NA: 189hp (4port), 212hp, 238hp, 247hp (6 ports)
So 135hp to 247hp (non turbo) without changing the engine dimensions at all.
Hopefully I'm not boring anyone, I just love these cars alot

I'm not an enthusiast of the rotaries, but I may recognise they have some interesting features. They still get some cult-following among the experimental aviation folks.

The mazda RX sports cars have a huge cult following as well. I'd say 99% of people that drive a rotary engined car, except for perhaps the RX8, are passionate about it.

88 refers to the year 1988.
FC refers to a 2nd generation rx7.
you might have heard of s13, s14, s15's (nissan 240sx's etc.) or ae86's (rear wheel drive corollas). Or even SN94 (94-04 mustangs).
There is an FC at the beginning of every 2nd generation rx7 vin code.

Thanks, I was really confused about that. Is a 13B a car, too?
