Those modular heads were terrible; the pi heads were worth like +50hp on those 4.6L engines.
Do you still have the plastic "alternator will snap off" lower intake? Those things were one of the worst Ford goofs ever.

I am excited to see if you can do this. I think aeromodding will get you to the mid 30s easily with the 3.08s. (are you sure those are the gears in the car? seems low for an AOD)...I have 3.08s in my '95 GT with the 5spd. I thought all the autos came with 3.55 or something; the racers typically throw in 3.73s into a 5spd, or 4.10s into an auto.
