i did a little more research and it seams that the vtec e motor works more like a 12 valve motor (1 intake valve per cylinder) until reaching a certain rpm. it then switches to a 16 valve operation.
So to my initial point, i guess there isnt a direct correlation between vtec and lean burn mode
