Civic VX lean burn indicator vs vtec light

I recently purchased a 92 civic VX to sit in the stable next to my CRX. I would really like a lean burn indicator light but without the hassle of software, hardware, programming etc.

Is there a direct correspondence between when vtec is activated and lean burn mode? If so i could install a vtec light very easily to show when I am in lean mode or not.

If you can use a drill and a welder put a bung on your exhaust, buy a wideband 02 and matched meter.

that is an option i have looked at but it is much more expensive than a bulb a wire connection to the vtec wiring.

For my convenience of watching a light turn on and off i wont be spending more than a few bucks. if i cant do this on that budget then i can do without watching a light and just feel for the lean burn

I don't know if lean burn can kick in while the V-tec is opening the extra valves, but as far as I know, the extra valves only open when the engine is revved above 2,500 RPM.
Others have made lean burn indicators, I have not.

makes sense. I wasnt sure if vtec opened additional valves or closed them. i know traditionally vtec opens additional valves but since this is vtec-e i thought it may be reversed.

i did a little more research and it seams that the vtec e motor works more like a 12 valve motor (1 intake valve per cylinder) until reaching a certain rpm. it then switches to a 16 valve operation.

So to my initial point, i guess there isnt a direct correlation between vtec and lean burn mode
