88 refers to the year 1988.
FC refers to a 2nd generation rx7.
you might have heard of s13, s14, s15's (nissan 240sx's etc.) or ae86's (rear wheel drive corollas). Or even SN94 (94-04 mustangs).
There is an FC at the beginning of every 2nd generation rx7 vin code.
