is it the 2.0L with one cam called the split port or SPI
or is it the twin cam Zetec 2.0L engine.
commonly the SPI gets 1 to 3 more mpg

not to be a downer but.........
the SPIs have a nasty valve seat issue of braking up and trashing the engine. at about 100/120K
though ive seen it happen at 60K to 200K
its not a matter of pore service its when they go they go. its like they made them to fail.

im replacing a engine in a 02 SPI that blew to the point it broke the no4 piston from the connecting rod...cracked the liner, bent the no4 rod, and trashed the head...all in a drive though at low rpms
needless to say the engine is a total loss.

im sourcing a good lower end and a head with up-graded valve seats to fix the issue...
