i still dont think it would look that bad

you could make a mounting ring to overlap and secure the plate?! would be a clean flush install if you wanted to spend a couple more hours on the overall porduct

EDIT: does your jurisdiction/city allow the Tinted plate covers?! It may help, not stick out like a pimple
