UG recommends ≥ 3 miles and speeds of 50 mph or greater when covering the distance for it's calibration.

I consider this question timely, and forgive me for hijacking the thread.

How accurate are the mileage posts on US highways? If no mileage markers are available is GPS accurate enough? Would measuring the calibration distance using my cycling computer (Garmin 500 with speed and cadence sensor) give better results than either of the prior 2 questions?
