UG Odometer calibration increments?

does the UG have a .1% calibration increment? ok I suck at math. what would be the most amount of error in (feet) in a mile then? 5280ft in a mile 52ft/2 =26 ft. at most is that correct? and does it take a whole mile to calibrate the UG?

UG recommends ≥ 3 miles and speeds of 50 mph or greater when covering the distance for it's calibration.

I consider this question timely, and forgive me for hijacking the thread.

How accurate are the mileage posts on US highways? If no mileage markers are available is GPS accurate enough? Would measuring the calibration distance using my cycling computer (Garmin 500 with speed and cadence sensor) give better results than either of the prior 2 questions?

Dan

GPS is among the best tools readily available. Most are good to within 12 ft or so.

My experience is that mile markers are generally very accurate. I would put almost an equal faith in both mile markers and GPS.

I broke my UG and don't remember if the increment is as low as 0.1%, but I would guess that it is. That level of error in 1 mile is equal to 5.28 feet (5280 * .001)

Cycle GPS' are even more accurate than car systems. Ideally I like to calibrate over a whole tank distance regardless.
