I was thinking about the arguments for a used hybrid. I am in the process of changing jobs (I hope) which will mean I have to give up my company van. I have been looking into commuter vehicles (my commute will be all highway).
I don't want to go used, and a hybrid is a waste of money for highway driving.
I was looking at new cars and the standouts are fiesta, rio, veloster, etc. for both fuel economy and price. all of these are in the $13 to $16k area with just under 40mpg hwy.
half the price and twice the mpg is very attractive for me. I don't think I am alone in the sector. anyone who is in the market for an econobox would have to look at the Elio for these reasons.
the "low tech" approach they say they are using is also very attractive because that means I could work on it and it leaves a ton of room for improvement.
just my .02.... might even be worth less than that.
