Definately some truth in this.
Since I have a few days, I was able to search around and find the sensor I need for only $160 shipped and it will be here in two days. If the problem reared it's head during the trip, I wouldn't have been able to replace it and I'd pay the extra cost in fuel or by buying the part at a local store.
