Mercedes has had lin bus controlled alternators for years. It trys to only charge the normal car battery when you are decelerating. I don't like it because the programming always leaves the battery at 80% to make sure there is "room" to add more if you do slow down. We have to use a 50 amp charger every time we have the key on/ engine off for diagnostics because the voltage of the 100 amp hour battery will drop to 11,5V immediately.
