I actually wanted to make a bike rack Kamm back, just because nobody had done it before, but if I follow the template, I would have a very small taper, and I would not expect much of an improvement.

That is a very interesting idea. I'm not sure if it will work on a hatchback though, since most of those use the back/top of the trunk for support. I do have one that was given to me for free. I guess i should see if it will fit on my car or not.
