The ME1003 is a pretty nice motor IMO. I have a ME0708 on my riding lawn mower and have been very pleased with it. The ME1003 is essentially a beefed up verson of that.

The motor can be run at higher voltages. I was looking at using a ME1003 for another project and emailed the motenergy. The reply said I could go up to 96V. This brings your unloaded rpms up around 5000 and loaded rpms just under 4500 rpm (reference the ME0709 charts, there is a 96V graph I believe) which I think is probably the limiting factor. I would imagine you could probably bring the voltage up higher if you had some way of limiting max rpms to avoid damaging the motor.
