What do you plan to do with this machine? If you plan on anything more than a toy to run around the block on you will need speed and range. Unless you plan on full Vetter style streamlining, you will be lucky to get 60 mph top speed and 150 Whr per mile. A 40 mile range will take a 6kWhr battery. $3,000 for LiFePo4. Or $1,500 for lead but now they weigh 360 pounds and are way too big to fit on a bike.

I've settled on the battery. I'm going with the Winston LFP40AH 3.2V, 40Ah (or comparable).

The only problem right now is I need to switch out this motor. That's priority one. Is there any way to get a DC to AC inverter for the bike to use what I have? Or would I need to worry about the amps frying the thing? I'm thinking it would over-complicate things (regen braking, etc...)

I started looking into a diy 3 phase inverter once, couldn't justify the time/expense for quantity 1. Sounds like the kelly has a crappy record. Sell the 3 phase, or get a compatible controller, not the worst financial mistake anyone has ever made

Yeah, I have an ebay ad about to be posted and I have the motor for sale here: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...0-a-26269.html

I'm going with the ME1003. If anyone has an ME1003 and wants the 0913, I'd be up for a straight up trade and take the $200 hit.

The ME1003 is a pretty nice motor IMO. I have a ME0708 on my riding lawn mower and have been very pleased with it. The ME1003 is essentially a beefed up verson of that.

The motor can be run at higher voltages. I was looking at using a ME1003 for another project and emailed the motenergy. The reply said I could go up to 96V. This brings your unloaded rpms up around 5000 and loaded rpms just under 4500 rpm (reference the ME0709 charts, there is a 96V graph I believe) which I think is probably the limiting factor. I would imagine you could probably bring the voltage up higher if you had some way of limiting max rpms to avoid damaging the motor.

That's all good to know. Thanks! I didn't know beforehand that the 1003 could do 96V. I just saw the 0913 could do 96v and could potentially go higher and I was sold on that.

consider the design voltage limits of your Alltrax 7245 controller, unless you want to sell that too

Nah, I don't want to sell that too. I like it too much. I've read (I have a huge archive of bookmarks for this project) that a few people have gotten more volts out of the Alltrax 7245.
