Blew the hose 2 years back. I couldnt find one so did a simple bypass to keep neutral hydraulics action and fluid inside the rack n pinion.
I did see a 1/2 mpg increase but project snow balled at this point and it would have required 3-4 tanks test to give you solid returns answer and that never happened.
The new more amperage toyota alternator and Largest battery I could fit were next added 2 weeks later.
This was a 1+ mpg mod also because Darkened morning drive kept running Alternator on constant .
Small Batteries are lighter but wont run headlamps for long till alternator starts constant on off cycles. "Good Mod" for night drivers.
Also larger pulley reduces voltage peak mine went from nearly 14.4vdc to 13.2under driving it.
I never looked back and cant say exactly how much had changed where, as said I went into modding it full force and fast.
