I did that first thing when I started having problems last year. All the passages were completely clogged with carbon buildup. I am guessing the years of clogged passages somehow made the EGR valve go bad. The factory service manual has an electrical test for the EGR valve that I did, and it failed. I might try the Autozone EGR. I didn't know if they would carry those or not. But for less than half the price of OEM its worth a shot.

And I took a look at the Elio that you mentioned. I really hope these make it to production. This kind of car is exactly what people need. Simple, simple, simple. I want something small, lightweight, and easy for the DIY'er to work on. Thankfully it's not a hybrid, and its only $7k!
