The A/C is run off an electric compressor pump that runs off the main pack. There is no reason to P&G and turn A/C on/off.

Also, I wouldn't worry about the pack overheating unless your car is SUPER hot inside. It not only has the air cooling system, but it also limits how much you can assist/regen when the pack gets too warm. It protects itself very well, thats why you simply don't hear about problems with Toyota hybrids...

I don't know if you can program gauges into the UG like you can on the SGII, but I recommend looking into programming a gauge that monitors the ammeter on the main pack. It'll teach you how much brake to use while not exceeding the amount of power you can regen into the pack, so you can recapture as much of that energy as possible.
