You want it to be cheap and have big range? It may be cheap in use but sure, capacity of current batteries means a big potent pack is not cheap, though it won't even come close to Tesla money.

Yeah, what if you dropped the Boxer engine and stuff from the Wing and convert it to EV? You could have at least 150 kilos of LiFePo's on that and have a fantastic range. Or 150 kilo's of cheap lead acid and a range that sucks. Or not bother with EV for that at all and just admire the boxer sound and power. It is up to you.

Why, like the trailer or generator you'd leave the extra pack home or at the rental service? Bolting it in would not be smart unless you need the extra range most of the time.

For you this would not work then, but I prefer to rest half an hour after 2 hours of driving. That would not give enough charge time to top it off, but will extend the range beyond the next stop (I'd plan my trip around quick charging points of course).

A net of pack swapping points would solve this of course. For that the EV needs to become more common than today.
In the early days of motoring if you ran empty somewhere you'd have to visit a drug store to buy a couple of bottles of gasoline. When cars became more common filling stations emerged. And so eventually will EV related services.
