What makes you think American vans require a gasser V8? Do you realize the vast majority of American cargo vans are substantially cheaper than that diesel thing and have a V6 under the hood? When you compare total running costs side by side, the basic Econoline is substantially cheaper to own than all the diesel euro vans.

Ford is going to keep the Econoline in production long after the new diesel Transit hits the US market because theres still a huge market for a cheap, reliable work van.
Also if you're going to moan about big, bad, wasteful American vans, at least go after the big daddy, the V10 gasser.
