I remember the Honda Super Cub was still quoted as the cleanest over-the-road vehicle in the world a few years ago, altough still carburettor-fed. EFI became standard in 2011, but JDM versions are still fitted with kick-starter only...

I wasn't at the auction today, but a friend of mine there wanted the Super Cub. I asked him afterwards how it went, and he said he didn't get it because it sold for $650 and that was more than he wanted to pay. Uh, I have no clue about scooter/motorbike prices, but is that too much for a really clean, low mile example of one of these? Keep in mind that they are not something you find here unless they have been brought in grey market from Japan.

At least for me, considering the cost of Chinese brand-new mopeds, 650 bucks for an original Super Cub is worth.

Not exactly exotic, but a milestone of sorts: saw two Nissan Leafs on the road yesterday (at different times).

Yesterday, coming back from a walk with my dog, I saw a Ford Pampa coupé-utility with a dedicated-ethanol engine.

Iveco Daily cutaway van: with a 3.0L 4-pot turbodiesel it can perform the same duties an American van requires a gasser V8 to perform.

Brazilian Ford Courier with a reefer module

and its engine is flexfuel

Mercedes-Benz 240D in stock condition (black license plates are used in Brazil only for vintage cars with more than 80% originality preserved and more than 30 years old).

This may look as just an old Ford Pampa with a canopy, until you look at the fuel cap...

This one has the dedicated-ethanol engine.

Parked in the EV/Hybrid parking spots at Ikea yesterday:

Those spots don't have charging plugs or anything. They are just "look at me. I'm driving an ECO car so I get to be close to the doors" spots.

Those spots are pointless at a first sight, but we might remember that many buyers of "environmental" vehicles are actually either posers or took the decision based on the expected financial rebate.

Wait - rebate?? Where do I sign up? Ha ha, sadly I don't think I get anything for buying a worn out, 13 year old hybrid. But that won't stop me from saving another one lol.

What makes you think American vans require a gasser V8? Do you realize the vast majority of American cargo vans are substantially cheaper than that diesel thing and have a V6 under the hood? When you compare total running costs side by side, the basic Econoline is substantially cheaper to own than all the diesel euro vans.

Ford is going to keep the Econoline in production long after the new diesel Transit hits the US market because theres still a huge market for a cheap, reliable work van.

Also if you're going to moan about big, bad, wasteful American vans, at least go after the big daddy, the V10 gasser.
