I know that not every American van is fitted with a V8, but there are also many options for the vans back there, different payload and GVW ratios, among other features. And no, the basic Econoline is not really cheaper to run than Diesel vans from overseas markets with a comparable payload and GVWR (not exactly the case regarding the Iveco Daily, which has higher payload and GVWR more comparable to the E-350 and E-450).
