I know that not every American van is fitted with a V8, but there are also many options for the vans back there, different payload and GVW ratios, among other features. And no, the basic Econoline is not really cheaper to run than Diesel vans from overseas markets with a comparable payload and GVWR (not exactly the case regarding the Iveco Daily, which has higher payload and GVWR more comparable to the E-350 and E-450).

Well I haven't seen anything interesting this week, but I will say that compared to a boat, even my Suburban seems like an eco-ride! I don't really know anything about boats, but a friend of mine just bought a 33 foot Larson. Apparently it's something cool in the boating world, I have no idea. What I do know is that he says it's over $500 or so to fill the tanks, and that the dual Volvos (I think) will chew through that in an afternoon. Good grief! I guess it's true what they say, it's better to know someone that owns a boat than to own one yourself ha ha.

Might these ones qualify as eco-cars?

Mercedes MB-180 D: a 7700lbs. GVWR van with the OM616 engine in a 79hp rating

Brazilian Chevrolet D-20, with a wooden flatbed: basically a local version of the C20, but with a 4-pot Diesel instead of the straight-6 gasser

Argentinian Peugeot 504 pickup, fitted with a naturally-aspirated version of the Indenor engine also used in the US-spec Peugeots

That "Chev" pick-up looks like a mid 90s Ford F series here in the USA.

Last week I saw a Zenn electric car. Sorry no pic. First time I've ever seen, or even heard of them.
