Your Sub could do more than 6k, it tends to come down to two things:
1] Tongue weight: Sub payload reduction despite a WD hitch spreading all but 60-75% off of the rear axle.
2] Trailer frontal area: wind resistance. This is why I'd avoid a big numerical drop. It's a more important consideration than weight, significantly so.
Post #20 is quite right. Test!
And, you'll have much more fun with a 4500. Knowing not just when, but how to shift is the, IMO, huge payoff of a nice manual . . getting the best blend of work and high FE in moving a load. Otherwise, why have a truck?
